JUKI SMT Pickup Nozzle

JUKI SMT Pickup Nozzles for Smart EMS PCB Assembly

Vacuum, slot, gripper and pipe pickup nozzles for JUKI KE-2010 to KE-2060, FX-1 and 700 series mounters. Tip bores from 0.4 mm to 9.5 mm, copper-alloy body, custom design, one-week lead time.

The nozzle is the last millimetre between your mounter and the board. Southern Machinery designs and manufactures pickup nozzles for JUKI mounters - standard 500 and 700 series, plus slot, gripper and pipe types for odd-form parts - matched to the component you actually place.

Key features

  • The right bore, or the part skews

Every standard JUKI nozzle is published against an applicable component width. A tip too wide loses the vacuum seal on a small chip; a tip too narrow cannot seat a large body. Matching the bore to the part is the first cause of a clean pick.

  • Wear is a downtime line, not a consumable line

A worn tip raises the mis-pick rate long before anyone logs it as a fault. The mounter retries, the head waits, and the operator clears a jam that the catalogue would have predicted. Nozzle life is a throughput number wearing a spare-parts label.

  • Odd-form parts need a different tool, not a smaller chip

Connectors, transformers and polarised parts do not sit on a flat vacuum tip. Slot, gripper and pipe nozzles exist for exactly these parts, and choosing the type is a design decision made before the line runs, not a fix applied after it stops.

In detail

From component drawing to a nozzle that runs

Selecting a pickup nozzle is a short, repeatable sequence: measure the part, pick the tip family, size the bore to the component width, then confirm the shaft, the material and the pick test. Southern Machinery runs this sequence against your actual component, not a catalogue photograph.

  • Measure the component. Record the body width, length, height and weight. The width drives the bore; the weight drives the vacuum.
  • Pick the tip family. Flat chips take a vacuum tip. Leads and slots take a slot nozzle; bulky or polarised parts take a gripper or a pipe nozzle.
  • Size the bore to the width. The catalogue maps each standard nozzle to an applicable component width, so the bore is chosen from a published band, not by eye.
  • Match the shaft and slider. The nozzle must seat on the correct JUKI head and, where used, the standard Automatic Tool Changer shaft.
  • Choose material and tip. Standard bodies are a copper alloy; fine-pitch tips use polyurethane cups; pipe nozzles use interchangeable rubber tips.
  • Machine the tip geometry. Outer and inner diameter, chamfer and slot width are cut to the drawing so the seal forms on the first pick.
  • Test the pick rate. The nozzle is proven on the part before it ships; Southern Machinery quotes a 99.99 percent pickup rate on its own decks.
  • Install and teach. Fit to the head, set the pickup height and vacuum, then confirm the pick window on the machine.

Three nozzle families cover the JUKI mounter range

The JUKI application catalogue groups its standard nozzles by head and machine series. Southern Machinery manufactures to those groups and to the special families the same catalogue lists.

  • 500 series - 2000 / FX-1 heads. The 501 to 508 tips serve the KE-2010, 2020, 2030, 2040, 2050, 2060 and FX-1 vision and laser heads, with a bore from 0.7 mm to 9.5 mm. Two part-number revisions exist; see Open points.
  • 1xx and 2xx - 700 series heads. On the 700 series, 101 to 106 run the laser-alignment heads and 201 to 204 the vision-alignment heads, sized from 1.0 mm to 9.5 mm outer bore.
  • Slot, gripper and pipe - odd-form. Slot nozzles grip leads, gripper nozzles handle bulky or polarised parts across a 0.8 to 5.2 mm gripping range, and pipe nozzles carry large bodies and sockets, each listed for the 700 and 2000 families.

Where the documents disagree, both values stay on the page

A nozzle table that quietly picks one of two numbers is worth less than one that shows both. Six points below are stated differently across the supplied documents, or are named in only one of them. Confirm each against the current drawing for your head and configuration before you place an order.

Which nozzle family fits which JUKI mounter

The JUKI application catalogue maps machine series to nozzle type. The table summarises that mapping and the two 500-series part-number revisions so you can check fit before you specify.

What you choose when you order a nozzle

Each of these is a documented family in the catalogue or the Southern Machinery decks, not a custom engineering project.

  • Standard vacuum tips. The 500, 1xx and 2xx families for flat chips, MELF, tantalum, SO, QFP and BGA, sized by component width.
  • Slot nozzles. For leaded and connector parts; slot width and length are published per type across the 700 and 2000 families.
  • Gripper nozzles. Mechanically clamp bulky or polarised parts across a 0.8 to 5.2 mm gripping range instead of relying on vacuum alone.
  • Pipe nozzles. For large bodies, sockets and shields, with interchangeable rubber tips to protect the part.
  • Automatic Tool Changer fit. Custom nozzles are built to the standard nozzle slider shaft and the standard Automatic Tool Changer.
  • Custom design. Southern Machinery designs and manufactures to your drawing when a standard tip does not suit the component.

Six steps from nozzle in hand to first clean pick

A nozzle only performs when it is seated, bored and taught correctly. These are the six steps Southern Machinery uses when a nozzle goes onto a head.

  • Confirm the family. Check the nozzle type against your head series - 500 for 2000 / FX-1, 1xx / 2xx for the 700 series.
  • Check the part revision. On the 500 series, confirm whether your machine takes the original or the new part number before fitting.
  • Seat on the shaft. Mount on the correct slider and, where used, the Automatic Tool Changer; confirm the nozzle runs true.
  • Set the bore to the part. Match the tip bore to the component width band so the vacuum seal forms on the first pick.
  • Teach pickup height and vacuum. Set the pickup height, dwell and vacuum level on the machine, then verify the pick window.
  • Prove and log. Run the part, record the mis-pick rate, and set a replacement trend before wear becomes a stop.

Frequently asked questions

Which JUKI machines do these nozzles fit?

The JUKI application catalogue maps the 500 series to the KE-2010, 2020, 2030, 2040, 2050, 2060 and FX-1 heads, and the 1xx and 2xx families to the 700 series. Southern Machinery also lists a RES-1 serial family. Confirm your exact head and firmware before ordering.

What tip sizes are available?

Standard tip outer bores run from 0.7 mm (nozzle 501/502) to 9.5 mm (508 and 106), with inner bores from 0.2 mm to 8.0 mm. Each catalogue nozzle is published against an applicable component width, so the bore is chosen from a band rather than by eye.

What are the nozzles made of?

The catalogue states a copper-alloy body and tip, with polyurethane cups on fine-pitch tips and interchangeable rubber tips on pipe nozzles. No tungsten-carbide or ceramic claim is made for these JUKI rows in the supplied documents; the Southern Machinery supplier catalogue tags the JUKI rows as METAL / PAD.

Can you make a custom nozzle?

Yes. Southern Machinery describes itself as specialized in the design and manufacture of SMT nozzles and lists a custom nozzle family, including slot, gripper and pipe types and a JUKI CN-SM-2713 custom part. Custom nozzles are built to the standard slider shaft and the standard Automatic Tool Changer.

Is the 500-series part number interchangeable with my older machine?

Not always. The catalogue lists two revisions: the original E36xx7290A0 and a new 40011046 / 40001339 series. The new revision is compatible with KE-2050, KE-2060 and FX-1 but not with the earlier KE-2010 to 2040. Check the revision against your model before you fit.

What pickup rate and life can I expect?

The Southern Machinery decks quote a 99.99 percent pickup rate and a service life of more than 24 months. These are the manufacturer's own claims, not catalogue figures, and real life depends on duty cycle, part abrasion and cleaning frequency; treat them as targets and confirm on your part.

Which parts need a gripper or slot nozzle instead of a vacuum tip?

Leaded and connector parts suit slot nozzles; bulky or polarised parts suit gripper nozzles across a 0.8 to 5.2 mm gripping range; large bodies, sockets and shields suit pipe nozzles with rubber tips. The catalogue lists these families for both the 700 and 2000 machine groups.

How do I order, and what is the lead time?

Send the nozzle type or the component drawing, the head model and the quantity. The Southern Machinery decks quote a one-week lead time on standard types, with sea freight and customs-clearance delivery offered. Prices are on enquiry; this page is not a quotation.
