Nozzle & Gripper

Panasonic-compatible SMT Pick-and-Place Nozzle

The nozzle is the last millimetre between your Panasonic head and a good board. 0402 to Φ10 mm. Calibration-ready. Drop-in fit.

Southern Machinery designs and manufactures Panasonic-compatible SMT pick-and-place nozzles for NPM (D3/W/TT2/VF) and CM (402/602/603) mounters — vacuum, gripper, calibration and custom odd-form tips from 0402 to Φ10 mm, ceramic, metal and rubber. N6100xxxxx part numbers reproduced, dimensional drop-in fit, one-day spare-parts lead time, five-day custom design. Request a nozzle match.

Southern Machinery designs and manufactures Panasonic-compatible SMT nozzles for smart EMS PCB assembly. From the 0.35 × 0.35 mm tip on a 0402 to the Φ10.0 mm large-component nozzle, we match the mounters your line actually runs — the NPM series (NPM-D3, NPM-W, NPM-TT2, NPM-VF) and the CM series (CM402, CM602, CM603). We reproduce the N6100xxxxx part numbers and the legacy 1001N, 110N, 204CN and VVS/VS/S/M/L/LL/LLL naming, in ceramic, metal, metal-plastic and rubber tips, with MELF, octagon, rectangle and Y-shape (王) geometries — including the calibration nozzle your head uses to teach its…

Key features

  • The tip sets the pick

A mounter does not pick a component; it picks a position through a tip. When the tip is wrong for the part — too wide, too narrow, the wrong material — the head reaches, misses the centre of gravity, and the placement is marginal. Every mispick traces back to a tip that was never matched to the part.

  • A drifting tip breaks the taught position

Panasonic heads are taught and calibrated to a known pick position. As a tip wears by microns, the real pick centre drifts away from the taught one — and the reject rate climbs while the program looks perfect. Nothing alarms until the calibration nozzle and a fresh tip bring it back into line.

  • OEM pricing squeezes the spares budget

Genuine Panasonic nozzles are expensive and often carry long lead times, so factories run them past their useful life to avoid a stop. That is a false economy: one stopped head costs more in an hour than a whole set of matched nozzles. A traceable aftermarket source turns the spares line from a hostage into a plan.

In detail

From your head to a fitted nozzle in six documented moves

Nozzle supply is not catalogue roulette. It is a matching discipline: read the machine and head, cross-reference the part number, choose the geometry and material for the actual component, then verify dimensions before it ever reaches your line. This is the sequence Southern Machinery engineers follow on every Panasonic order, and the same one we invite you to run against your own part master.

  • Read the mounter and head. Everything starts with the model and head — NPM-D3, NPM-W, NPM-TT2, NPM-VF, or a CM402, CM602 or CM603. The head fixes the shank, the holder interface and the vacuum take-off, so it is the first fact we record.
  • Cross-reference the part number. We match your nozzle against the Panasonic taxonomy — the N6100xxxxx part numbers and the legacy 1001N, 110N, 204CN and VVS/VS/S/M/L/LL/LLL naming — so the replacement carries the same identity your program expects.
  • Choose the tip geometry. The component decides the tip: a 0402 needs the 0.35 × 0.35 mm fine tip, a MELF needs a dedicated MELF bore, a large IC or QFP needs a wide Φ5.0–Φ10.0 tip or a gripper, and an octagon, rectangle or Y-shape (王) part needs the matching profile.
  • Select material and pad. Ceramic for fine-pitch, low-static, long-life picking; metal for rugged larger parts; metal-plastic and rubber for sensitive bodies where a hard tip would mark or crack. The document lists all four materials against real part numbers.
  • Manufacture and dimensionally verify. Each nozzle is ground to the OEM dimensions and checked — tip diameter, bore, concentricity, shank fit — before it ships. The pick position must be identical on cycle one and cycle five hundred thousand.
  • Drop in, calibrate and confirm. Because the fit is dimensional to the head holder, the nozzle drops in without re-tramming; a calibration nozzle verifies the taught pick position. We ask for a first-article pick on your own tape so the match is proven on your line.

Which Panasonic head, which nozzle series

The table below maps the mounter families in the document to the nozzle part-number series and the component sizes they cover. Use it to find your row, then send us the exact part number for a dimensional match.

Configure the nozzle to your part, not the other way round

Once the series is matched, these are the choices that turn a generic tip into the right tip for your component and your wear pattern.

  • Tip material selection. Ceramic, metal, metal-plastic or rubber — chosen for the part body, the pick force and the wear life you need.
  • Bore & MELF variant. Single or double bore and dedicated MELF tips for glass-bodied components, with octagon/rectangle/Y-shape profiles.
  • Calibration nozzle. A reference tip to teach and verify the head's pick position, so a whole bank stays trustworthy between services.
  • Spares kits & batch. Named-part-number kits with the right mix of tips on the shelf, so a swap is a morning's work, not a wait.
  • Nozzle cleaning program. Pair the nozzles with an S-6200 / SCM24 automatic nozzle cleaner to recover suction and extend tip life between swaps.
  • Custom design from a photo. No catalog tip fits? The documented 5-day design service returns a bespoke nozzle concept from three photographs.

How to order a nozzle that fits first time

Getting a matched nozzle is a short, repeatable process. Here is the sequence we run with every new EMS customer, so the part arrives ready to drop into the head.

  • Identify the machine and head. Note the mounter model (NPM-D3, NPM-W, NPM-TT2, NPM-VF, CM402, CM602, CM603) and the head position. A photo of the head and the existing nozzle is enough to start.
  • Give us the part number. Send the Panasonic nozzle P/N (the N6100xxxxx format or the legacy 1001N / 110N / 204CN / VVS-series name) printed on the nozzle or in your spares list.
  • Confirm geometry & material. We check the tip size, bore and material against the component you place, and flag anything that should change for your wear pattern.
  • Sample & dimensional verify. For new or custom tips we ship a sample and confirm tip diameter, bore, concentricity and shank fit against the drawing.
  • Fit to the head & calibrate. Drop-in fit to the holder — no re-tramming. Run a calibration nozzle and a first-article pick on your own tape to confirm the taught position.
  • Maintain & schedule swaps. Track cycle counts, re-verify with the calibration tip, clean the vacuum channel, and reorder from a named part number before the tip drifts into a reject.

Engineering notes

ARTICLE 01The one millimetre nobody specs — and why it decides your yield

The nozzle is the only thing in the pick-and-place cycle that touches the component, yet it rarely appears on the machine spec sheet. Article body shown in English; summaries localised. Every SMT engineer can name the mounter that placed a part. Almost none can name the nozzle that picked it. That is the gap: the…

ARTICLE 02Why a drifting tip breaks the position your head was taught

A method for separating a nozzle problem from a program problem before you change anything — and the calibration nozzle that proves it. Article body shown in English; summaries localised. When a board rejects, the first instinct is to blame the program or the feeder. Both are usually innocent. The mispick you are…

ARTICLE 03Ceramic, metal or rubber — choosing the tip material

Material is a wear-and-grip decision. Here is how to read your parts and pick the right one. Article body shown in English; summaries localised. 'Ceramic, metal or rubber?' sounds like a shopping question. It is actually an engineering one, and getting it wrong is why a tip either wears out in a week or marks the…

ARTICLE 04The part number you cannot read

How to identify a worn Panasonic nozzle and turn an illegible marking into an exact replacement. Article body shown in English; summaries localised. Half the nozzle orders we get start with a photo of a part number that has worn off. The marking is tiny, it sits on a curved ceramic body, and after a few hundred…

ARTICLE 05Running a nozzle past its life is a false economy

The real cost of stretching a tip, measured against the hour of head time it eventually costs you. Article body shown in English; summaries localised. The most expensive nozzle is the one you keep too long. Running a tip past its life saves a purchase order and costs you an hour of head time — usually at the worst…

ARTICLE 06Odd-form parts need odd-form tips

Octagon, rectangle, Y-shape and gripper nozzles — matching geometry to the parts that defeat a standard tip. Article body shown in English; summaries localised. Ask an operator which parts are hardest to place and they will not say the 0402. They will say the terminal, the connector, the octagon or the odd-shaped…

Frequently asked questions

Do these fit genuine Panasonic NPM and CM heads?

Yes. We match the shank and holder interface dimensionally to the OEM nozzle for the mounter family you run — NPM-D3, NPM-W, NPM-TT2, NPM-VF, CM402, CM602 and CM603 — so the nozzle drops into the head without re-tramming. Send the exact part number and we confirm the fit before you order.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

We supply from a single replacement piece to a full production batch. The standard nozzle family carries a documented one-day spare-parts lead time; custom or odd-form tips follow the quoted schedule after the design step.

Can you make a nozzle that is not in the list?

Yes. The documented five-day design service starts from a photograph, not a drawing. Send the part, a handful of them, and the board, plus your daily volume, and we return a nozzle concept — geometry, bore, material and head interface.

Ceramic, metal or rubber — which should I choose?

It depends on the component and your wear pattern. Ceramic suits fine-pitch 0402/0603/1005 with low static and long life; metal suits larger, tougher parts; rubber and metal-plastic suit sensitive bodies and large components. Tell us what you place and we will recommend.

How do I find my nozzle part number?

The P/N is usually marked on the nozzle body (an N6100xxxxx number) or listed under its legacy name (1001N, 110N, 204CN, or the VVS/VS/S/M/L/LL/LLL series) in your spares register. If it is worn off, a clear photo of the tip and the machine model is enough for us to cross-reference.

What is a calibration nozzle and do I need one?

A calibration nozzle is a known-good reference tip the head uses to teach and verify its pick position across a bank. If your reject rate drifts while the program looks perfect, a fresh calibration tip is often the fastest way to prove whether the nozzles or the teaching is the cause.

How do I get more life out of a nozzle?

Keep the vacuum channel clean, re-verify with the calibration tip, and track cycle counts. Pair the nozzles with an S-6200 or SCM24 automatic nozzle cleaner to recover suction, and swap on a schedule from a named part number rather than waiting for a reject spike.

How do I get a quote?

Email info@smthelp.com or WhatsApp +86 13602562576 with the machine model, head position and nozzle part number (or a photo). We reply with a matched part, price and lead time, usually the same working day.
